Taylor Zar '22 passed her oral defense on February 1, 2022 Congratulations, Dr. Zar!

 

While balancing the demands of online learning and clinical training amid the challenges of an ongoing pandemic, our lab members have been placed at incredible externship and internship sites. Congratulations on all of their hard work! Lauren Yang '22 was matched with an internship at San Jose State University Counseling Center and Psychological Services. Taylor Zar '22 was matched with an internship at Manhattan Psychiatric Center. Keara Mageras '23 will be at Northwell-Zucker Hillside Hospital in the Behavioral Health College Partnership track for her third externship. Meredith Seewald '23 will be at Northwell-LIJ Medical Center in the Geropsychology track for her third externship. Olivia Sahlman '24 will be at New York-Presbyterian Westchester Behavioral Health Center in the Inpatient Adult Addiction Recovery Service track for her second externship. Caroline Ball '25 will be at SCO Family Services for her first externship. Songmin Na '25 will be at South Beach Psychiatric Center for her first externship. Liorah Rubinstein '25 will be at Pace College Counseling Center for her first externship.

Lata K. McGinn, Ph.D was honored at the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies 54th Annual Convention for her Outstanding Service to ABCT Award in recognition of her vision and leadership in creating the World Confederation of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies (WCCBT). Congratulations, Dr. McGinn!

Lata K. McGinn, Ph.D led a one-hour free webinar titled "Stabilizing Chaos: Fostering Psychological Resilience in the Wake of Adverse Events" as part of a series curated by the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT) on July 9, 2020.

Our lab members were matched to excellent externship sites for the 2020-2021 year! Taylor Zar '22 will be at Northwell/LIJ in the Behavioral Health College Partnership track. Lauren Yang '22 will be at Kingsboro Psychiatric Center. Meredith Seewald '23 and Keara Mageras '23 will be at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Mary Mulroy '24 will be at Iona College Counseling, and Olivia Sahlman '24 will be at Brooklyn College Personal Counseling. Congratulations to all of our hard-working members!

Catherine Nobile '19 received the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy Student Achievement Award for her poster "The Effectiveness of Telemental Healthcare (TMH) Compared to Face-to-Face Care (FTF) in a Philanthropically Funded Military Family Center."

Emily Hanau '20 passed her oral defense on September 10, 2019 and Carly Geller '20 passed her oral defense on September 12, 2019. Congratulations to Drs. Hanau and Geller!

Stephanie Nelson '19 and Catherine Nobile '19 passed their oral defenses on May 2, 2019. Congratulations to Drs. Nelson and Nobile!

Lata K. McGinn, PhD published "Feasability and Impact of a Guided Symptom Exposure Augmented Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Protocol to Prevent Symptoms of Pharmacologically Induced Depression: A Pilot Study" in the peer-reviewed Journal of Cognitive Therapy and Research in April 2019. She developed a novel CBT intervention to prevent depression induced by medications and tested its effects in a NIH funded randomized controlled trial. Her novel intervention is intended as a psychological vaccination against the future development of depression. This novel intervention helps individuals learn and practice skills on induced symptoms so they are better prepared to use skills when symptoms of depression naturally occur in the future.

Lata K. McGinn, Ph.D. conducted a two-day workshop with Dr. Doug Woods titled, ‘OCD and Related Disorders: OCD and Tourette Syndrome Across the Lifespan.

Lata K. McGinn, Ph.D published an article, "Clinical Guidelines for Improving Dialectical Thinking in DBT" in the Cognitive and Behavioral Practice Journal with colleagues Lauren Bonavitacola, Alec Miller, and Emma Zoloth.

Stephanie Nelson '19 and Catherine Nobile '19 will be continuing their clinical training with postdoctoral fellowships! Stephanie will be in Geropsychology at the Manhattan VA. Catherine will be at the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Center at NYU Langone Health. Congratulations to them both on their offers!

Stephanie Nelson '19 presented a poster "Examining the Impact of East Asian Culture on Social Anxiety Disorder and Taijin Kyofusho Symptoms" based on her doctoral research project II mentored by Dr. Lata K. McGinn at the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies Convention in Washington D.C. on November 17, 2018.

Emily Hanau '20 presented a poster "Cognitive style and coping style as vulnerability factors for depression" based on her doctoral research project II mentored by Dr. Lata K. McGinn at the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies Convention in Washington D.C. on November 16, 2018.

Catherine Nobile '19 and Stephanie Nelson '19 matched at top internship sites.  Catherine will be interning at Northwell-LIJ, and Stephanie will be interning at the Bronx VA.  Congratulations to our fourth year lab members!

Lata K. McGinn, Ph.D. has been invited to serve on the scientific committee for the 10th International Congress of Cognitive Psychotherapy of the International Association for Cognitive Psychotherapy in Rome on June 18-21, 2020.

Lata K. McGinn, Ph.D. presented findings from her research study at a symposium at the ABCT Convention in San Diego, California on November 18, 2017. Her paper was titled, “A pilot study using a novel augmented CBT intervention to prevent symptoms of pharmacologically induced depression.”

Lata K. McGinn, Ph.D. and colleagues led the discussion on a clinical roundtable titled, "Do All Roads Lead to Rome? Examining the Treatment of OCD from Different Theoretical Perspectives" at the ABCT Convention in San Diego, California on November 18, 2017

Lata K. McGinn, Ph.D. chaired a symposium at the ABCT Convention in San Diego, California on November 18, 2017 titled,  “Novel Targets and Change Mechanisms in Prevention.”

Lata K. McGinn, Ph.D. and colleagues presented a poster titled, “Improvement in Staff burnout following training and implementation in schools following dialectical behavior therapy,” at the ABCT Convention in San Diego, California on November 18th, 2017.

Lata K. McGinn, Ph.D. conducted a school refusal workshop at the NY Association of School Psychologists annual conference in White Plains, NY on October 20th, 2017.
